Travels for You

The south of France is widely regarded as the most beautiful stretch of coastline on the planet. Meandering through St. Tropez, Nice, and Cannes, it is a destination of luxury.

With a reputation for millionaire yachts, casinos, and all the high life, it’s a hot destination. It’s not all about decadence and luxury, however. Head inland and you’ll find some of the most wonderful countryside environments.

You’ll find the Pyrenees mountains stretching out towards Spain and reaching all the way to the Mediterranean. Finally, there’s the rural and quaint area of Provence. It is steeped in history and holds a more relaxed pace of life. Whatever holiday you’re looking for, you’ll find it in the south of France. Here are a few of our favourites.

Nice
The town is France’s most popular tourist spot outside of Paris. It’s easy to see why. With beautiful golden beaches stretching as far as the eye can see, it’s a warm paradise. Not only that, but the town boasts a welcome mix of new and old. There are the luxury hallmarks you’d expect from the Cote d’Azur. But, there are some elements of its past in plain sight too. Why not take a trip from Nice up the coast to Cannes or St. Tropez for a taste of the high life?

Ares
Ares is the quieter option, for those looking to explore France’s rural side. Its quaint streets meander slowly through the market town, and the pace of life slows down somewhat. Ares is also famous because it’s where Vincent Van Gogh called home. You can stroll through his old town and imagine what it was like for the painter working here. You’ll also find a lazy river to follow through the town.

Gorges du Verdon
If you’re looking to get out of the towns, we suggest you make time for Gorges du Verdon. Set in the stunning Providence countryside, the Gorge is a jaw-dropping 700m tall. It’s France’s answer to the Grand Canyon, yet with one magnificent difference. The bottom of the gorge is full of clear blue water. Take a day trip here and sail right through the gorge.

Uzes
If you ask us, Uzes represents the real south of France. It is the quintessential small French town. You’ll wander its mazey streets, visit the local bakers and patisseries. There are regular art fairs held in the town center and the love of culture is plain to see. On Saturday, the market takes over the entire town and everybody comes out for the occasion.

Nimes
Nimes is another wildly popular choice when it comes to the south of France. The reason for this is the magnificent roman history artifacts. Here you’ll find the remains of a Roman amphitheater. You’ll also discover the baths and old chariot routes. For those with a cultural leaning, you’ll find some of France’s best new galleries here.

The south of France is a treasure trove of luxury, traditional, and history. Immerse yourself in all three and you’ll discover the true spirit of France.
